Jon Hood: Hype or Hero?
The next great white boy from Kentucky to play for UK? Or just an overrated local kid who played against inferior high school competition and became a product of the media searching for the next Rex Chapman?
It’s up to Mr. Hood to determine the answer to the question.
The BBL never saw Hood play in HS, but from all accounts he is a big time player capable of fitting many styles. More suited to the wing position than a legit 2-man, Hood offers an excellent mid-range game and is athletic enough to throw down in traffic.
Possessing a long and lean body suited for hoops, he’ll need some serious weight room work on his upper body before he can make a major impact in the SEC. Of course, the same was said about Chapman before he tore up the SEC his frosh season.
So where does Hood fit in? Does he back up Darius Miller at the 3 position? Does he show enough range on his jumper to consistently challenge for minutes at the 2 with Wall and Dodson?
The BBL doesn’t have enough data to accurately predict Hood’s role this season. But we know there will be a need for consistent outside shooting. If Hood can offer marksmanship from behind the 3-point line, he will quickly find his way into the hearts of the Big Blue faithful.
Strengths:
Scoring the ball, mid-range shooting, athletic
Weaknesses:
Lack of strength, inexperience
