The Lesser Known Blue Chip
The BBL is excited when discussing the arrival of Eric Bledsoe to UK this fall.
John Wall comes in much more ballyhooed due to his near legendary YouTube repertoire of dunks and astonishing feats of athleticism. But Bledsoe comes in with an all world HS background in Alabama. In fact, his high school coach believes he’ll have as big of an impact as any frosh in the country this coming season. Many Alabama AAU and high school observers have raved about Bledsoe single-handedly leading his Leflore High team to the Alabama state championship.
We have not seen him play in person, but have caught video of his game. His floor vision, ball handling and ability to create opportunities for teammates is extraordinary. Bledsoe also possesses a body physically mature beyond his years. He is truly an athletic beast who is explosive off the bounce, possessing over a 40-inch vertical leap at only 6’1.
The BBL believes Coach Calipari would not have hauled this young man to UK without promising him time as the starting point guard as a true freshmen. What that means is Wall will be the likely starter at the 2-guard position. We expect Eric to play 20+ minutes a game and contribute significantly.
Big Blue fans should be incredibly excited and optimistic about the UK backcourt this season. It should bring back memories of the mid 90s.
Strengths:
Ball handling, speed, passing, floor leadership
Weaknesses:
Consistent perimeter shot, inexperience
