Wall’s High-Flying Wildcat Debut
Kentucky finished up its two-game preseason over the weekend with a 117-52 victory over out-manned Clarion University.
The win featured strong performances from two of the Cats’ diaper dandies, DeMarcus Cousins (20 points) and John Wall (27 points), who was making his UK debut after returning from suspension.
The Wildcats, ranked No. 4 in the AP preseason poll, officially begin the season Friday vs. Morehead State.
Meanwhile, here are the primary takeaways of the two exhibition games:
- Wall and Bledsoe will be difficult to guard. Sure, they are young and will make mistakes, but these kids are a virtual blur on the court.
- Kentucky will need to improve its rebounding. The Cats were hardly dominant on the glass against inferior competition.
- Harris and Stevenson remain in the mix for PT.
- UK was surprisingly adequate from long range, going a combined 11-30 on threes against Clarion and Campbellsville. Also, the bigmen aren’t afraid to shoot from deep, Patterson included.
- This might be the most athletic team in UK history, ‘96 team included.
