Is This a Rebuilding Year for the Cats?

This is a Sweet 16 team. If they get some rest and get hot outside they could make a run, but I just don’t see this team getting past the round of 8. This team will struggle in half court games. It needs to play a full court game with more pressing up top but it can’t because of the depth issue. Tie it up in physical, half court games and this team loses games like GA and Ole Miss.

My take on the starting 6:

T. Jones: Will be a hell of a small forward in the NBA. However, he does not want to play inside for this team, and this team is desperate for inside presence. I have noticed Jones passing a bit more out of the double teams and maybe Cal’s words of wisdom on National TV last week (“Listen dumb F**k”) got through, but I still see a selfish player who fails to kick to open teammates.

B. Knight: Is a scorer first, passer second. Put a quick, but physical player on him and he is timid and gets pushed around.

D. Miller: Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde—great athlete, but no killer instinct.

Harrellson- Physical but can’t jump or score down low against superior front court athletes. Should be coming off the bench for 10 mins a game max. {Ed. Note: the BBL officially disagrees with Cuz Shane on this comment.}

D. Liggins- I love Liggins’ Defense. His D is on the shut down level and it will be a crime if he does not make SEC all defensive team. He is also the best pure passer on this team. He does need to step up and be more assertive in scoring. He passes a lot of open 3s and then shoots bad ones. Cal needs to push to him that his role has changed and he needs to attack the basket more on the dribble drive.

D. Lamb- Cal finally brought in a pure shooter. Great offensive game, still iffy on defense at times.

Bench

Vargas-Florida didn’t want him which tells you something. He plays like he is 6’, 115lb supermodel.

Hood’s game is more suited for W. KY, not UK.

Poole’s (top 50 player) lack of development is a complete mystery-he is strong and quick, you’d at least think he could play 3-5 minutes of D.

Fear not this one down year. Cal may be facing NCAA salary cap violations next year with his epic class coming in. Adding Davis (#1 rivals) center; Gilchrist (#1 SF), Teague (#1 PG) and Wiltjer (top 20 overall) to Lamb, Liggins, & Miller (and possibly Knight and/or Jones) will make UK the early Vegas favorite. I will continue to question Cal’s X and O’s but it still beats the dark years of Bily Bourbon and the Tubbyball flex press offense.

1. This loss means nothing. UK lost a game on the road in bizarre circumstances vs a very good team. If anything,... fb.me/4rtUJiRSK
Time to put Texas A&M to bed and get tuned up for a high seed in the big dance.
Epic collapse by UK tonight. Still something not right with this team.
Tough loss over the weekend, but the Cats showed heart...they'll be back. fb.me/7EWsEFppx
