Kentucky Destroys LSU, Enters Critical Stretch

After less than stellar performances in its first two SEC contests, Kentucky put it all together and dominated LSU Saturday, extending its Rupp Arena win streak to 28 games.

Despite coming into the game with a 2-0 conference record, it's clear that LSU is a far lesser opponent. But Wildcat fans have to be excited about the performance, in which UK showed off an arsenal of offensive and defensive weaponry.

Brandon Knight dropped 19 points and Terrence Jones chipped in 17, and the "veterans" DeAndre Liggins and Darius Miller each showed assertiveness with 15 points a piece. Josh Harrellson had another monster game on the boards, pulling in 14 rebounds, and Doron Lamb had an efficient offensive game.

Meanwhile, the Cats starting five combined for 9 steals and 6 blocked shots, while holding LSU to only 26% shooting. Overall, it was a strong performance on both ends of the floor, and represents a positive sign as UK heads deeper into league play.

Kentucky will play 5 of its next 7 games on the road, with the two home games coming against SEC East rivals Georgia and Tennessee. The BBL feels that if UK can get at least 5 wins during this critical three-week span, it will cement itself as at least a #3-4 seed in the NCAA tourney.

Here is how we see it shaking out:

Jan 18: @ Alabama -- Win

Alabama is athletic and will keep it close for a little while, but Cats pull away late.

Jan 22: @ South Carolina -- Win

Cats will be motivated to make a statement after SC knocked UK from the #1 ranking last season.

Jan 29: vs Georgia -- Win

With a week off to prepare, UK avenges the earlier season loss before a huge home crowd.

Feb 1: @ Ole Miss -- Win

Ole Miss is too small and lacking scoring power. UK rolls.

Feb 5: @ Florida -- Loss

We hope we're wrong, but UF matches up well with its sizable frontcourt and experienced guards.

Feb 8: vs Tennessee -- Win

UT has talent, but hasn't put all the pieces together. We don't expect to see it happen in Rupp Arena on national TV.

Feb 12: @ Vandy -- Loss

Always tough to win in Memorial Coliseum, and Vandy may have one of its best teams this season--with good inside outside punch.

1. This loss means nothing. UK lost a game on the road in bizarre circumstances vs a very good team. If anything,...
Time to put Texas A&M to bed and get tuned up for a high seed in the big dance.
Epic collapse by UK tonight. Still something not right with this team.
Tough loss over the weekend, but the Cats showed heart...they'll be back.
