Kentucky Moves on in SECs
Kentucky escaped the SEC Quarters with a nine-point win over a game Ole Miss team in Atlanta Friday behind a strong 19-point showing from Doron Lamb.
The 75-66 final score belies how close the game was. The bottom line is that Cal’s teams struggle with the rugged style employed by Ole Miss head coach and Bob Huggins disciple Andy Kennedy.
Despite the Cats’ struggles in this one, it keeps alive a recent and very positive trend—UK is now winning close games and doing it away from home. For most of the season, the Cats couldn’t buy a win in a tightly fought contest, nor could they beat anyone (Mississippi included) away from Rupp. The streak of doing both stands at two now.
However, another streak seemed to end—that of UK shooting well. Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones were woeful from the field—helping keep the Rebels in the game, when the Cats had a chance to blow it open.
Good signs: DeAndre Liggins kept up his defensive domination of opposing SEC guards, holding mighty mite Chris Warren to 5-20 shooting.
Miller and Harrellson chipped in with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Good to see the upperclassmen in the scoring column.
Winning a halfcourt fistfight. Mississippi’s physical play is exactly the kind of thing that throws monkey wrenches into the dribble drive offense. Kentucky managed to win in spite of that.
The Cats move on to battle red hot Alabama tomorrow. BBL will be back then with more info…
